CONSISTENT Wards' performer Terry Box recorded another victory on the club's pool - this time when he won the latest winter league event from peg 23.
Box's successful tactics to tame the frosty conditions were to lay down a bed of pellet feed, and pole-fish his sweetcorn bait over it hard on the bottom. This enabled him to net half-a-dozen similar sized carp for a 17-5-0 total.
Dave Wright finished second when he too used pellet-bait to take six carp, this time on peg 16 and weighing 14-14-0, while in third place came Leon Elsworth whose net from peg 20 clocked 10-2-0.
Worcester and District United Anglers Association held its latest Sunday Open on the Blockhouse section of the canal where fish were hard to come by.
In first place was Alan Baldwin who, after going almost half the match without a bite, was encouraged to persevere with his caster option, offered in the deeper centre channel on peg 221, and he was rewarded with two roach and a solitary perch late in the day which together tipped the scales to a miserly 1-14-0.
Runner-up prize went to towpath star Mick Samson who also had to wait until the end of the contest before taking a weight of 1-3-0. Third was Mark Newman who led for most of the contest with one early chub going 0-10-0.
The Wye at Belmont continues to be the top river venue in the country and once again there were a string of double figure catches this week.
Just coming out on top was Upton-upon-Severn star Colin Harvey who narrowly beat the talented field with an all-roach net going 33-10-0. He used stickfloat and maggot from permanent peg 92 opposite the rowing club.
Second place went to Wye regular Dave Brittan (Shakespeare) from the adjacent peg 93, who fell agonisingly short when he took a pole-caught 33-4-0 to the scales.
A close third was Shrewsbury angler Graham Thomas who weighed in with 33-3-0 beating fourth-placed Darren Fr-ost's (Drennan NW) weight of 29-14-0.
Moorlands Farm once again produced consistent catches with Broms-grove angler Steve Harris (SBS) adding to his impressive list of victories on the venue with an outright win during the New Year's day rover contest.
Deciding on peg 13 on Island Lake, Harris went out to 14 metres with pellet bait to take an all-carp winning net of 64-5-0. Runner-up was Martin Leferve (Moorlands Gold) with 42-8-0 and third was Chris Bradley weighing 40-14-0.
The Saturday match was also a rover' with Mal Watson stealing the show th-anks to a straight-ledgered corn-fed net of 51-8-0 from Meadow 32.
Sunday's Silver fish league fifth round event on Meadow Pool saw Lee Richard win with an all-skimmer net of 10-8-0 from peg 24.
Weekly Sunday Opens are being run on the upper section of the River Sal-warpe at Hawford Fisheries. Draw is 8.30am at the top lake with details from Colin Pettifer on 01905-25193.
Prospects: The Severn could be unfishable with tributaries like the Sal-warpe being a preferred option. Warmer weather could improve things on the ca-nal with roach willing to accept casters.
