Ledbury Town hosted another pre-season double-header last weekend, with both the first team and reserves in action.
But it was a day to forget for both, suffering two defeats to the teams travelling from Gala Winton.
Town took to the pitch first and they were greeted with regular downpours throughout what was anything but a ‘friendly’ fixture.
The tackles were flying in and the referee had to dish out his cards on a number of occasions as tempers threatened to boil over.
The only goal came on the 20th minute for Gala Winton, when their striker lobbed Joshua Worrell to take the lead.
Ledbury huffed and puffed but, despite having large parts of the ball, were left frustrated at full-time as the away side held on for the win.
The Reserves were up next but they were unable to provide a different result and were comprehensively beaten 6-0 by their reserve counterparts.
Having successfully dispatched AFC Renegades Reserves last weekend, the hosts were brought down to earth with a rather soggy bump in the torrential conditions.
It took until the 42nd minute for the first goal of the afternoon, an Alex Hunter own goal, but that sparked Gala’s hunger for more and in the next 20 minutes of the match, they ran riot.
A brace for Michael Baron, a further goal for team-mate Callum Thomas, and a second Ledbury own goal from captain Matti Holder made it five.
Lee Brinkworth struck a sixth past beleaguered Town keeper Zak Bonfield late on to end an afternoon to forget for David Butcher’s young squad.
