WORCESTER Wanderers first XV picked up a 15-10 win at Shipston.

Playing up the slope the Wanderers began the game in determined mood and dominated territorially.

And they took the lead early on when, after going through the phases, the Wanderers backs were finally released as Roger James fed Chris Jenk-inson who off loaded to Mike James.

He burst through the Shipston defence before passing to Andy Hurn who finished off in style near the posts for an unconverted try.

Roger James missed a penalty as Wanderers took the game to their hosts before more patient play from the visitors saw Sam Carter crash over in the corner. Mike James added the touchline conversion.

Shipston pulled three points back on the stroke of half-time with a penalty.

The second-half opened with Shipston displaying the grea-ter urgency but it was the Wanderers who scored first with a well taken penalty by Mike James.

Shipston were undeterred and took the game to the Wanderers who seemed content to defend their lead.

Pressure from the Shipston forwards led to errors by the Wanderers and with 15 minutes to go the Wanderers found themselves defending their line for long periods.

The Wanderers were able to clear their lines temporarily when they were awarded a free-kick, but from the resultant line-out the Shipston forwards recovered the ball and surged forward. From a rolling maul they crashed over in the corner for a converted try.

The Wanderers second XV maintained their unbeaten record in the Merit League as they came away from Kidderminster with a 20-12 success.

The third XV played their part in high-scoring and entertaining game away at Shipston thirds, but they went down 27-20.
