Woodford United 1, Evesham United 1

AFTER captain Steve Lutz had headed the Robins level ten minutes into the second period, they laid siege to the visitors' goal but just couldn't find the winner that their excellent efforts deserved.

It was one-way traffic despite Evesham playing a man short after Joe Clarke was red-carded on the stroke of half-time after pushing a home player.

It all looked bleak for the promotion chasers especially as they trailed at half-time when Neil King was allowed to fire in unchallenged from 20 yards after six minutes.

The recalled James Knott saw a shot inside 40 seconds diverted for a corner while Danny Scheppel and the outstanding Daniel Lennon both went close either side of the home side's goal.

Steven Hands, playing in midfield, struck a post after 34 minutes and Lennon's header a minute later was headed off the line.

However, Clarke's frustration left the visitors with a huge task but Lennon's trickery set up Lutz to quickly make the match all-square.

Gary Hay replaced Knott and he was instantly involved in the move that saw Lutz's goalbound shot seemingly blocked by a Woodford arm.

Hay then had a shot saved before he was joined in attack by Mark Owen who was sent clear by Hay's flick but denied the chance to make it 2-1 by a questionable offside decision.

Owen then looked to be impeded as he prepared to shoot inside the penalty area before firing into the side-netting after Scheppel had seen his effort touched to safety by Matt Finlay.

The Woodford keeper then smothered Lutz's header on the line before the hosts briefly threatened but Nathan Vaughan didn't have a save to make in the entire second half that ended with Hay blazing wide when he would have been expected to have at least hit the target.
