WORCESTER City’s rearranged Midland Football League Premier Division match at Gresley on Tuesday night has been postponed following five club members showing “flu-like symptoms”.
The news comes after City’s league game with Racing Club Warwick on Saturday was called off over COVID-19 concerns.
A club statement read: “Tuesday night's fixture away at Gresley has been postponed.
“Following our announcement with regards to Saturday’s fixture being off against Racing Club Warwick due to a number of the playing squad/staff showing flu-like symptoms, the squad and staff remain in seven days' isolation meaning Tuesday's fixture away at Gresley is postponed.
“A new date for this fixture will be agreed in due course.”
It remains to be seen as to what is going to happen next but manager Ashley Vincent said the club were “absolutely” taking the advice and would continue to take necessary steps to help protect players.
“We are monitoring the situation very closely on a daily basis,” he said.
“The main thing we want to do is make sure the players that are currently showing symptoms are well and get better and also the rest of the squad.
“Over the next few days we will be going around the team to ensure everyone is OK and check that no one else is showing any symptoms.
“Keeping the squad apart at the minute is what we’re doing and we haven’t met up since last Thursday but we are going to discuss in the next few days as to what is going to happen next.”
The league gave the green light for games to take place over the past weekend and then on Sunday confirmed games over the next week would also go ahead.
Their statement on Twitter read: “As per Saturday, the board have taken the decision that fixtures this week should continue.
"If we receive further instructions from either the Football Association or the government we will then re-appraise the situation accordingly.”
Football across the Premier and Football League has been suspended until early next month.
And other sports, including rugby and tennis, have also seen events suspended for a prolonged period as COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc with the sporting calendar.
Sporting Khalsa’s fixture with Walsall Wood and Tividale’s game with Heather St John's in City's division were both postponed at the weekend due to team members self-isolating as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, eighth-placed Stourport Swifts are due to host third-from-bottom Lye Town at Walshes Meadow on Tuesday night (7.45pm) after the clean-up operation following flooding at the ground by the River Severn.
Barnt Green Spartak entertain Feckenham in Division Two while Redditch Borough head for a battle of the bottom two at Bolehall Swifts (both 7.45pm).
