PERSHORE Town hope to sign an attacking option in time for Saturday’s trip to Wolverhampton Sporting Community (3pm) – even after “elegant” Luke Gaffney netted on his debut.
Left-footed midfielder of defender Gaffney notched the fourth three minutes after half-time in a 4-2 West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division success over struggling Wem Town.

Sam Clark and Nick Seabourne had ensured Pershore raced into a three-goal lead inside half an hour at the Community Stadium with Wem pinching one back through Grant Butler before the break.
But while Gaffney, recruited from Malvern Town, restored the three-goal cushion, boss Les Jones refuses to rest on his laurels as he seeks even more potency at the sharp end.
“I was delighted to see Luke score,” said Jones.
“He was on the fringes of the first team at Malvern but never really got a run in the team. He is a talented player so we want to give him some football at a level he is well capable of playing at.
“He had joined just as I was leaving the club, I had seen him as someone to bring through to the first team there.
“Malvern have a strong squad and that proved an opportunity for us to get him on board. He has a lovely left foot and is an elegant player.
“We are talking to a couple of players and hope to have one in for Saturday, there is a focus on attacking options so we will see what we can do.”
On the match, Jones added: “We totally dominated the game but were a disappointed to concede twice.
“The first just before half-time was a double deflection and just a freak goal, we were really comfortable at the time.
“I was really disappointed with the second, an unchallenged header but that was the only down side to the game. The rest was very encouraging.
“We have to cut out the unforced errors, it is all about minimising mistakes at this level but that should not take away from the fact we scored four and played very well.”
Pershore tackle a Sporting side fancied to make an immediate return to step five following relegation last season.
“It is going to be a tough one, they are seen as one of the sides to watch but we want to go there and win,” Jones said.
“Our away form has been pretty good, better than our home form in fact, so we will go there with every intention of getting the three points that will hopefully put us in the shake-up.
“Our aim has always been to be in the promotion race at Christmas, this is one of those games we really have to get a positive result from.”
Town host a friendly against Bredon tomorrow (Wednesday, 7.30) with gate receipts being donated to the fund to help sick Worcester schoolboy Oscar Saxelby-Lee.
