BOSS Carl Abbott reckons Evesham United’s midweek shenanigans will stand them in good stead for tomorrow's (Sunday, 3pm) trip to Sholing – even if they did send his ticker into overdrive.
The Robins bagged a first Southern League Division One South win of the season in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, beating Slimbridge 4-3 despite trailing by two and relying on a late penalty save after moving in front.
Next up is a trip to Southampton to face a side promoted as champions of the Wessex League having lost just one league game last term. United then hit the road again on Tuesday to tackle Frome Town.
“We have two really tough games coming up, they are long journeys but we are galvanised now and have a bit of courage about us,” said Abbott.
“We will dig in and do it the dirty way. When all was said and done and my heart rate calmed down a bit I was glad that happened on Wednesday because that showed another side to my boys.”
Zippy winger Matt Dodd is a doubt with a hamstring tweak but Adam Page is primed to make a welcome a return.
“I think Matt is a massive doubt for the two games coming up but fortunately Pagey will be back,” added Abbott.
“He could have played against Slimbridge but we wrapped him in cotton wool to make sure we had him for Sunday and I am glad we did.”
