WORCESTER Wolves have added EuroCup experience to their Roster with the signing of “hard-nosed defender” Maarten Bouwknecht.
The Dutch international joins Worcester from Netherlands' DBL top tier side SPM Shoeters Den Bosch who also competed in the EuroCup.
The 6ft 2in guard averaged 6.64 points and 2.95 assists last term and was awarded DBL Most Improved Player and U23 MVP in the 2016-17 season.
Worcester Wolves head coach Matt Newby is delighted to secure the 24-year-old’s signature ahead of the new season.
"With Maarten we complement our strong perimeter with a player who does not compromise,” Newby said.
“His work ethic and professionalism are well documented.
“He has excellent high-level experience from the top tier of Dutch basketball, including EuroCup appearances and representing the Dutch national team.
“He is an up-tempo guard with a high order basketball IQ, strong traits which complement the qualities of the perimeter we have recruited.
“He is a hard-nosed defender and does not shirk responsibility at key moments in the game, happy equally to create or finish the offence."
Bouwknecht is looking forward to the next chapter in his career with Worcester.
“I chose Worcester Wolves because I'm ready for a new challenge,” Bouwknecht said.
“I've played in the Netherlands for six years and for me it was time to step out of my comfort zone to get the best out of me.
“I think this is the perfect place to do so.
“I’m super excited to get started.
“From what I've seen we have a great fanbase in the Wolf Pack and I would love to please them with my and our way of playing.”
