CLAINES trainer Dr Richard Newland helped jockey Sam Twiston-Davies secure his 1,000th United Kingdom career victory at Southwell.
Twiston-Davies completed a momentous double on the day, securing his 999th victory with Nordican Bleue (10/3) before taking the next race with Chef De Troupe (10/11 favourite).
Both are trained by Newland with Worcester regular Twiston-Davies enjoying 123 wins for the county handler.
The 26-year-old son of Gloucestershire trainer Nigel joins the likes of four-time champion jump jockey Richard Johnson to reach the milestone and he is only the ninth to have done so.
The win marked his 25th success at the Nottinghamshire course with Twiston-Davies’ highest-performing tracks being Worcester (63), Newton Abbot (61), and Uttoxeter (56).
Twiston-Davies said: “I’m joining a terrific club of jockeys to have reached 1,000 UK winners so I feel very lucky just to be named in the same sentence as them.
“I’ve been able to ride for many good people and that has given me the ability to be able to adapt to different situations.
“Obviously, my dad has been a massive help from the start and I will forever be grateful for that.”
A staggering 407 of his 1,000 UK winners have come for his father and trainer Nigel and an additional 277 for 11-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls.
Among the 1,000 wins are 10 Grade One successes with his first coming at the 2013 Cheltenham Festival with The New One in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle.
The duo then went on to win the 2014 Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle.
His most recent Grade One victory came with Quel Destin in the Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow Racecourse.
Twiston-Davies also secured back-to-back Coral Scottish Grand National victories with Vicente in 2016 and 2017.
He continued: “There have been many highlights but there are definitely two that stand out.
"Firstly, Hello Bud winning his second Betfred Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree at the age of 14 when everyone wrote him off — that was a really emotional day as he became a big part of the family — he was 14 years old, number 14 and priced 14/1 so it really felt like it was meant to be!
“Also Dodging Bullets winning the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival — that is another day I will never forget.”
