MANCHESTER United academy programme adviser Tony Whelan is the keynote speaker an at all-day conference in Worcester exploring how to put children’s interests first in football.

Rebuilding the Belief 3 will be at the CGM Media Centre, home of Chris Green Media, in Blackpole on Friday, March 15, from 10am until 4pm.

Gareth Farrelly, a lawyer and former Republic of Ireland international who played for Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers and Everton, will also speak.

He will be joined by Simon Bywater, director for parental disclosure and relationship development at PlayersNet — an independent voluntary organisation offering young players, parents and coaches support and guidance, and Martin Brock, chairman of Nerf Junior Premier League.

Event host Chris Green said: “Rebuilding the Belief is the title of the sequel to my 2009 book Every Boy’s Dream which lifted the lid on the reality of life in England’s football academies and this is our third conference before publication later this year.

“Our first two conferences in 2018 attracted speakers from across the UK and Europe so we’re delighted to have such an impressive line-up at this month’s event.

“I’m particularly pleased to welcome Tony Whelan who has been a key figure in shaping Manchester United’s academy and the welfare of children in football.

"Delegates will hear his personal perspective on how and why clubs should ensure that children and teenagers get the chance to grow as people and enjoy a proper childhood.”
