UPTON entertained Coventry-based side Pinley in Midlands Five West (South) and ran out comfortable 36-14 winners.

In the early stages, Pinley used their forwards to win the ball, drive on and feed their fly-half to kick the ball long upfield.

The visitors opened the scoring with a converted try after Upton had been adjudged to have deliberately dropped the scrum.

Falling behind spurred Upton into action and they began a long spell of pressure in the Pinley half.

The hosts' dominance soon told as Russell Price crossed over for a converted score.

Rob Heeley then followed up the conversion with a penalty to give Upton a 10-7 lead.

Before half-time, Alex Pimlow and Chris O'Neil had both used their pace to run in tries. Heeley added the extras on both occasions to make it 24-7.

From the restart, Pinley scored a converted push-over try to close the gap to 10 points.

Upton went back to their open game and played some entertaining rugby, but Pinley refused to roll over easily.

Upton's superior fitness started to tell and young Kiwi Marek Willis ran some good angles to cut Pinley apart. He scored from one run and sent flanker Oli Jones, back after a major knee reconstruction two years ago, over from another. Willis converted the final try to make it 36-14.
