MOEEN Ali and Steven Davies have been rewarded for their fine end of season displays with places in the England Performance Programme squad that heads of to India next month.

The two Worcestershire players head off to Loughborough at the end of this month to join the 16-man squad which includes England seamers Stuart Broad and Chris Tremlett as well as all-rounder Ravi Bopara and new one-day wicketkeeper Phil Mustard.

"It was very good to get the news," 20-year-old Moeen said. "It was a little bit surprising to get the call, but it is reward for the way that Steven and myself have finished the season.

"It is going to be an excellent trip and it was great to hear that Steven was named in the squad too."

The squad will spend two-and-a-half weeks at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough before a high-performance camp in India for four weeks during November and December. Two four-day matches are planned during the spell in Mohali and Chennai.

"It is nice to have some England recognition," the former England Under 19 international. "We have had a lot of calls from the Worcester boys congratulating us. We just can't wait to go now."
