TERRY Box once again showed his stillwater prowess by winning the latest Wards AC summer league encounter with an excellent weight of 62-14-0.

With this match being held on the normally prolific Barbourne angling club pool at Cotheridge, Box was able to target a number of the recently stocked smaller carp by offering his pellet and maggot bait into the margins of peg seven to nearly double the weight of his nearest rival.

Adrian Sellars mounted a spirited late challenge in the match, however his 33-0-0 total fell short.

It was enough though, to beat the 10-9-0 third-placed net of Dave Reeves whose mixed bag came to meat and pellet from corner peg two.

The previous week's event was held on their own club pool where weights were below par and it was left to the ever-consistent Dave Wright to take the honours thanks to a 12-14-0 net.

His bag consisted of eight carp which fell for pellet bait close in.

Runner-up was Leon Els-worth with three carp going 5-8-0 and in third spot came Jack Martin with 5-2-0.

Plough AC star Dave Warren returned to winning ways when he took the top pay-out on his club's Sunday league venture with a weight of exactly 40lbs.

Canals one and two played host to the club and it was on peg 66 where Warren tempted carp and silver fish by presenting his pellet bait well across in just 12 inches of water.

In second place came Tom Keating with a caster-caught 26-2-0 from peg 48.

Nick Doherty found himself in third position, thanks to three maggot caught carp going 18-8-0, with Anthony Staite finally making the frame with an all-carp net going 17-10-0 for fourth.

The second George Spencer Memorial contest took place recently between the Brewers Arms AC and the Mayflower on the Birdcage pool at Bransford.

Winner was well-known Worcester matchman Nick Vaughn, representing the Brewers, with a weight of 7-10-0 from peg 29 consisting of two carp and a few silvers, all taken on ledgered maggot.

Mayflower man Dennis Yeomans came second with an all-roach net going 5-13-0 to beat his team-mate Dean Baker's 2-7-0.

This year saw a reversal of fortunes for the Mayflower side who took pole position with an excellent 33 points to the Brewers' 12.

Pitchcroft results always interest local anglers but with the Severn looking in excellent condition the Rexel club from Droitwich found fish difficult to come by for the first two hours of their match.

However, things did improve during the final stages of the competition.

Coming out on top from the favoured breamer' peg below the bend was canal expert Dave Lowe, who swapped his pole for an open end feeder set up to net 15-8-0 of skimmers to two pounds on double maggot bait.

Runner-up was Bob McAu-lay who found himself on the point of the bend where he netted roach to 2lbs on a Bolo' rig mid-river to weigh in 10-2-0, while in third place from the adjacent upstream peg was Dave Hall with six roach going 3-0-0.

At Moorlands Farms in the Friday Open, M Connelly came in first place with a bag of 116-9-0.

H Ward was runner-up with 95-10-0, while P Cartwright finished third with 87-3-0.

N Groves won the Saturday Open with a bag of 83-0-0, while 77-10-0 was enough for M Tooze to claim second place.

M Johnson came in third with 61-1-0.

The Sunday Open was won by M Watson who weighed in with a big of 93-3-0, A Jones took runners-up with 93-1-0, while M Tooze claimed third spot with 91-4-0.

The Barbourne AC are once again organising the Bank's Cup on the canal on Sunday. Team captains sho-uld contact Paul Bosworth on 01905-356678 to enter.

This weekend's big Bank's Cup competition on the canal could throw up some good weights with conditions perfect. Caster should dominate with fish willing to feed in the centre channel.
