WORCESTERSHIRE target Si-mon Jones is set to put three counties out of their misery next week when he makes his decision as to which contract he is going to accept.

The sought-after 2005 England Ashes hero is set to in-form Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard of where he plans to play next season on Monday.

The 28-year-old pace ace is due to meet with the Sophia Gardens chief on Monday after holding further talks with the former England batting coach yesterday.

Jones, who has also held talks with Hampshire, met with Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes a fortnight ago.

The Welshman was offered a verbal deal by the New Road chief when the pair met on Sunday, September 23.

But Maynard, who has taken former England physio Dean Cowley back to the Welsh county, is hopeful that the injury-plagued strike bowler will stay in Wales. "We had a chat yesterday morning and he is coming back to me on Monday," said Maynard.

"I would hope that we would have his decision in the next few days.

"Simon hasn't given any indication on what he is doing, but I'm hopeful he will stay at Glamorgan."

Jones, who lost his England and Wales Cricket Board central contract this summer, only played four Champion-ship games for basement boys Glamorgan last season.

In the 89 overs that he bowled, the 28-year-old only took one wicket.

The pace bowler has been struggling for fitness and form since the 2005 Ashes series.

With 18 Test caps to his name, Jones will be looking to get through the 2008 campaign injury-free and regain the pace and swing that saw him take 18 wickets in that memorable series against Australia.

If the Welshman can find his fitness and form once again, then a recall to the England side would almost certainly follow.
