WORCESTERSHIRE are still waiting to discover if Simon Jones will be heading to New Road next season.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes has made the 2005 Ashes hero an informal offer to leave Glamorgan and head to the Midlands for the 2008 campaign.

But like Hampshire, who have also made the Welshman an offer, and the Sophia Gardens side, Worcestershire are eager to find out what the 28-year-old pace ace has decided.

"There wasn't anything on paper, but we did send him away with what out thoughts were," Rhodes said.

"There wasn't any timescale, but, like Matthew May-nard said last week, we obviously would like it sorted out sooner rather than later."

Maynard, Glamorgan's new cricket manager, is hoping to meet with Jones this week to clear up his future.

Jones, who lost out on an ECB central contract this year, has seen the past two years wrecked by persistent knee problems and only took one Championship wicket last season in four matches.

He will be keen to get a good full season under his belt to get back into England contention once again.

Rhodes has also revealed that even though Ray Price has left the club, Worcester-shire may not go out and recruit a second spinner.

The Zimbabwean rejected a new 12-month deal at New Road last week, leaving the County with only one front-line spinner in Gareth Batty.

However, the New Road boss feels youngster Moeen Ali has the ability to help shoulder the spin load next season.

"New Road is not a turning pitch so we may look at bringing in someone we can develop," said Rhodes. "We do have Moeen Ali who we can turn to for his off-spin and he could be our second spinner."

Meanwhile, seam bowler Richard Jones has signed a new 12-month contract for the County.
