HEREFORD United have an opportunity to put their first away defeat of the season quickly behind them at Notts County tomorrow night (7.45).

The Bulls, who had previously won three consecutive matches on the road, were beaten 2-1 at Grimsby on Saturday and only had a 56th-minute goal from Trevor Benjamin to show for their efforts.

Manager Graham Turner hit out at a poor first-half display but is glad the trip to Meadow Lane is so soon.

He said: "We paid a heavy price for a very poor first-half. We never got started in the first 45 minutes.

"We almost made a game of it. I thought Theo Robinson should have scored in the last couple of minutes but we were very poor, inexplicably so in the first-half.

"We had a go in the second-half but the damage was done in the first.

"We've had a good run and start again at Notts County.

"We need to make sure we are ready for that match. If we can go there and get a result it wipes out memories of the Grimsby one."

Turner was particularly annoyed at the frequency his players squandered the ball in good areas.

He said: "There must have been seven or eight times in the first-half when we had good possession in decent areas and, for whatever reason, we gave it away.

"When you're trying to pass it you only need that little edge to be off your game and you pay the penalty. If you want to launch it that's fine, you get away with things."

With no injuries to report, Turner could name an unchanged team for the trip to Notts County.

However, he may decide to recall full-back Trent McClenahan in place of Richard Rose.

Pacy forward Robinson also impressed after coming on as a second-half substitute, although he missed an opportunity to equalise late on at Blundell Park.

Notts County moved up to 11th in League Two following a 1-0 home win against Chesterfield on Saturday, making it seven points out of nine for Steve Thompson's side.

Assistant boss John Gannon said: "We're looking at these games (Chesterfield and Hereford) as one and if we can get another win we will be really progressing in the right direction.

"But we know it is going to be really tough against Hereford. They have had a good start."
