WORCESTER Warriors and Wales prop Chris Horsman with the fourth of his World Cup diaries.

I AM delighted to have retained my place in the Wales side to play Fiji tomorrow - that is what I came to the World Cup for - I did not come away from Worcester to be a glorified tourist.

Tomorrow's game will be a winner-takes-all affair with a supposedly tough game with South Africa awaiting whoever goes through.

We are showing improvements in our squad and, if we can overcome Fiji, we have a fantastic opportunity in the quarter-finals.

There is no reason why we can not beat South Africa - this tournament has already shown that anyone can beat anyone on the day.

For example, Ireland went into the tournament as one of the best northern hemisphere teams and they have got their backs against the wall to qualify, while the Tongans ran South Africa very close in their pool game.

The spirit in the Wales camp is very good - we had a clear Saturday and Sunday this week and most of the lads went to Paris for the weekend.

Unfortunately for me, I got a kick on my ankle during the Japan game and had to stay at our base for some conditioning work with a few of the other injured players.

Those of us who stayed behind soon got fed up of receiving text messages from the guys in Paris - they were texting us while they had a police escort up the Champs Elysee and from the royal box at Long-champs while they watched the horse racing.

I had a text from Will James to let me know he had had a 30Euro bet come in and he'd picked up 250Euros.

I don't think you could print my reply though, but it is fair to say that those of us at the hotel were tempted to fill a few more rooms with sheep!

Gareth Thomas, Sonny Parker and myself went out for a lovely meal, but it would still have been nice to have gone to Paris and won a bit of money on the gee-gees!

After the Japan game, I had constant treatment on my soft tissue ankle injury, but it is fine now and I am ready and raring to go against Fiji.

The intensity has really stepped up in training and a few guys had bumps and bruises and bloody noses - but that is the sort of competition the manager wants in the squad.

It was a great game against Japan and was good to go out there and show what we can do. It was a fantastic game and they were a hard team to break down.

They competed in the contact area a lot more than other teams and they have a bit of flair too - as shown in the tries they scored.

We have trained pretty flat out since Monday, but yesterday was our day off. When I spoke to you for this column, I was sitting on the sea front in Nantes with Will James.

We were deciding whether or not to spend the afternoon at the nudist beach - but that would depend on how cold it got!
