KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Mark Yates wants his players to get back to keeping clean sheets after they conceded their third five-goal haul last weekend.

The Blue Square Premier side travel to league newcomers Salisbury City on Saturday looking to put last Saturday's 5-2 debacle at home to Torquay United behind them.

Mid-table Harriers also conceded five at Ebbsfleet United the previous Saturday and at Grays Athletic last month.

The Aggborough side have only kept three clean sheets in their opening 11 games and that is something Yates wants to put right.

"We are playing exciting football but we need to start keeping clean sheets again," Yates said.

"We can't keep giving goals away. We have scored more than we have conceded but the way that we have let goals in is a concern."

Yates feels individual errors are at fault for the majority of the goals leaky Harriers have let in.

With the rest of the Blue Square Premier teams in action during mid-week, Yates had his players working hard in training ready for the trip to Wiltshire.

"We have to take what we have been doing on the training ground on to the pitch," he said.

"We've been working really hard to try and cut out the individual mistakes.

"Three of the goals last Saturday were down to individual errors and we can't keep gifting goals the way we have been."

Salisbury have made a good start to their first season at the top flight of the non-league pyramid following their promotion from Conference South last term.

Lying in sixth place in the table, the Wiltshire side, under the guidance of Nick Holmes, are unbeaten at their Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

The Whites will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat at promotion hopefuls Oxford United on Tuesday night.

"Salisbury are a good side who play to their strengths," Yates added. "That is something we have to be aware of."

Yates will give first-choice keeper Scott Bevan a late fitness test on a thigh strain with the 27-year-old stepping up his training this week.

If the former Southampton custodian fails to recover, on-loan Shrewsbury Town stopper Chris MacKenzie is likely to retain his place between the posts.

The 35-year-old veteran, who has suspended his goalkeeping coaching duties at the New Meadow while he is at Aggborough, had a debut to forget for Harriers last weekend but Yates feels the ex-Telford United man can bounce back.

"Chris knows he was at fault for a couple of the goals and he is desperate to put that right," the Harriers boss added.

Harriers striker James Constable is in hot form with nine goals in the last six games.
