GLAMORGAN are keen to have the future of Worcester-shire target Simon Jones resolved sooner rather than later.

The Sophia Gardens' new cricket manager Matthew Maynard hopes to meet with the England Ashes hero next week.

The 28-year-old pace ace, who has been dogged by knee and calf injuries throughout his career, is out of contract at Glamorgan and he has already held talks with Hampshire and Worcestershire as well as being offered a new deal by the Welsh county.

The New Road outfit have yet to offer Jones a deal but they would see the capture of Jones as a major boost to their squad.

The Welshman lost out on an England and Wales Cricket Board central contract. But Maynard, the former England batting coach who returned to Sophia Gardens on Monday to take up the reins, is hopeful that his star asset will decide to stay.

"I haven't spoken with Simon since his meeting with Worcestershire but I'm hopeful that he will stay," said Maynard.

"We spoke before he met with Worcestershire and it was a very positive meeting.

"We haven't set Simon a deadline but I think we would all like this matter to be resolved sooner rather than later.

"We travel to Guernsey today to play Worcestershire in a Lord's Taverners' event and when we return next week I hope to meet with Simon."
