THE Robins drew a second successive Southern League blank at St George's Lane on an afternoon when injuries to Nathan Vaughan and Wayne Lawley gave manager Paul West even more cause for concern.

After a decent opening 30 minutes, when Lawley, preferred instead of top scorer Mark Owen, and former Worcester City midfielder Tom Warmer, impressed, chances were at a premium at both ends.

Danny Hodnett shot over for the hosts in the opening minute while Mark Hands had another effort from distance blocked.

Leamington managed twice as many shots but Vaughan was only tested once from Richard Adams, who also fired an effort wide as did Ben Mackey on two occasions.

However, it was the skilful midfield man, who broke the deadlock after 36 minutes when he found the corner of the United net after exchanging passes with a team-mate on the edge of the penalty area.

Lawley's departure two minutes later after a 50/50 challenge with Mackey led to Owen bringing the only save of the match out of Richard Morris.

The Brakes should have doubled their lead either side of half-time but Liam Reynolds and Marcus Jackson both missed decent opportunities.

Robins manager West then introduced Danny Scheppel and Allando Davis in an attempt to stir up his lacklustre charges.

However, there was no change and Mackey sealed victory 10 minutes from time with a crisp finish after a fine pass from Adams split the United defence with apparent ease.

Things got even worse for the hosts soon after when Vaughan was carried off after falling awkwardly.

The aptly named Steven Hands took the goalkeeping jersey.

But he was helpless to intervene when Russell Dunkley headed a corner goalwards but the ball struck the crossbar.

Vaughan wasn't the only visitor to the Worcestershire Royal on Saturday afternoon as a second ambulance ferried Leamington defender Martin Hier on the same route after he was stretchered off following a challenge from Owen.
