“THE first Premiership match that I went to after I retired I left after about 15 minutes because I just could not watch it.”
Those were the words of former Worcester Warriors and Harlequins wing Sam Smith who was forced to retire due to injury at the age of just 26.
But two years after making that tough call Smith is back enjoying rugby again as a spectator while developing his business.
Worcester News sports reporter Geoff Berkeley popped along to Wayland’s Yard coffee shop, ran by Smith, to speak to the ex-Sixways star for the second episode of the Worcester Warriors Podcast.
The 26-minute chat sees the 28-year-old open up about his decision to hang up his boots in 2016, reflect on his career in the game and stress the importance of planning for life after rugby.
Smith also gives his thoughts on the performances of his former clubs Quins and Warriors last weekend and looks ahead to Worcester’s trip to Sale Sharks on Sunday (3pm).
