WORCESTER City face an anxious wait to discover the extent of the damage to goalkeeper Matt Gwynne’s hand.
Gwynne is set to undergo an X-ray after some granite was dropped onto his hand while carrying out his job as a kitchen fitter.
The ex-Westfields stopper sustained the blow on the morning of City’s midweek clash with rivals Bromsgrove Sporting.
And manager John Snape said he expected to be without Gwynne for Saturday’s trip to Boldmere St Michaels (3pm).
“Adam (Przybek) had to come in as some granite was dropped onto his hand,” said Snape after City’s 2-1 loss to Sporting.
“He is going to have an X-ray in the next couple of days. It might take two or three days (for the swelling to go down) but he will be struggling for the weekend.”
With Gwynne ruled out, Przybek was handed his first start for City since arriving on a work-experience loan from West Bromwich Albion last month.
The 18-year-old demonstrated his bravery when he put his neck on the line to save at the feet of Jason Cowley in the first period.
Despite chipping a tooth in the collision Przybek played on as Cowley struck at the end of each half to secure Sporting victory.
“I would like to thank West Brom for letting us have Adam as he was key on Tuesday,” Snape said.
“I think he lost half a tooth. But that’s what it’s like in non-league and I think it will do him the world of good for the future.”
After coming through three games in the space of five days, Snape is now getting his players ready for their battle with Boldmere at Church Road.
“Brad Birch is carrying a knock as his leg seized up,” Snape said.
“I thought he started slowly but as the game wore on he made some fantastic, inspirational runs and hopefully he is available for Boldmere.
“Dave (Reynolds) and (Nick) Turton ran their guts out.
“(James) Baldwin has come back into contention from his illness. Bekir (Halil) is back available and (Ethan) Moran is there as well.
“We have got enough players to get us through until the end of the season and we are going to get ready for Boldmere.”
City, who have dropped to fourth position, were held 0-0 by Boldmere at the Victoria Ground last month.
“Boldmere are probably one of the toughest sides we have played this year,” Snape added.
“I know (Boldmere’s manager) Stuart Grosvenor really well.
“He is a fantastic lad and a good coach so I know it will be tough but I expect us to bounce back.”
