THE final rounds of the Evesham Golf Club winter league were completed with Dan Richings and Phil Batchelor winning.
The semi-finals were reduced to nine holes with Richings and Batchelor beating Michael Grove and John Ainsworth.
James Attwood and Pete Moore triumphed over Pete Stanley and Laurie Keene.
In a close final 18, Attwood and Moore clawed back an early four-hole deficit to reach the turn two down.
Both teams shone on the back nine but Richings and Batchelor parred the difficult final hole to deservedly seal the league title.
The wooden spoon competition for teams finishing bottom of their respective divisions resulted in a win for Monty Haughtey and Will James over Tony Stanley and Steve Young.
With the weather markedly improved, the Duc’s Cup competition was played from the white tees at Evesham.
The top eight qualifiers progressed to the knockout stage for a 36-hole final.
The 60-strong field found scoring difficult and with the competition scratch score increasing to 72 Jim Jones (71), Pete Stanley (72) and Rob Wylie (73 and best gross 82) progressed from Division One.
John Jones (71), John Stanley (71), John Vaughan (71), Phil Wheeler (73) and Fraser Williamson (73) qualified from Division Two.
Evesham contested the county Kidderminster Cup quarter-final at 2017 winners Gaudet Luce.
Scratch alternate shot format for senior golfers is always challenging and Evesham performed creditably before losing 2½-½.
Rich Curnock and Nick Webb lost 4&2 and Boz Harris and Andy Witts one-down while Tony Murphy and Alan Askew halved their match.
Meanwhile, Bill Cook won Broadway’s men’s par bogey among 87 competitors in near-perfect conditions.
A full field turned out to compete in the first official qualifier of the season and Cook found form with a winning score of five-up.
Gary Barnett was second with four-up to edge out Matt Sollis on countback with James Powell and Paul Whelan fourth and fifth respectively.
