HEREFORD United recruit John McCombe is confident his new team can mix it with the best in League Two.

The central defender was one of three players to sign for the Bulls this week, joining Karl Broadhurst and Kris Taylor at Edgar Street.

McCombe, 22, failed to secure a regular first-team place at League One side Huddersfield Town after joining the Yorkshire club as a trainee.

But he is confident of making an impact with Hereford and believes Graham Turner's side can do well in the forthcoming season.

He said: "As soon as I met the manager and the assistant, they were very into their football and I knew they would be two good coaches.

"Hopefully they can improve me as a footballer and hopefully I will help Hereford along the way as well.

"As soon as I spoke to them their first thoughts were promotion and I've got to agree with them.

"I don't think we're making up the numbers in this league, I've seen a lot of teams in it and I think we're as good as anyone.

"There are quite a few good teams in League One but I don't think there's much difference between the bottom sides and those in League Two.

"I expect every game to be a tough game."

He added: "Firstly, I need to get into the team and then when I get into the team just play as well as I can and do a good job."

Manager Turner is hoping to unveil more signings before the season starts.
