STEVE Rhodes will hold back on naming his starting XI for tomorrow's Twenty20 showdown with Glamorgan Dragons (5.30pm) until he has assessed the wicket at Himley.

Nadeem Malik and Moeen Ali return to the fold after being with the seconds for a one-day game which was washed out.

With Phil Jaques, who top-scored at Somerset on Tuesday, also back in the squad, Rhodes will take a 15-man party to the ground near Stourbridge, which hosts the game due to flooding at New Road.

The County's director of cricket said: "I will assess the weather, the conditions and the pitch at Himley before coming to a decision on the starting XI."

After the narrow win over Somerset at Taunton, the Royals can still qualify for the quarter-finals but will almost certainly need wins tomorrow and in their final group game, against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Friday, to progress.

Meanwhile, chief executive Mark Newton has explained the club's decision to host Sunday's LV County Championship game against Kent at New Road despite flooding.

The decision has been met with a degree of incredulity in many quarters but it is a challenge the club are determined to rise to.

Newton said: "All my senior colleagues have bought into the aim and we are already working hard to achieve the single objective of a ball being bowled at 11am on Sunday.

"Kidderminster CC offered to stage the game and we are very appreciative of everything they have done recently.

"However, the logistics of setting up the infrastructure for a four-day game are far greater than for a Twenty20 match.

"It would have meant most of our time and resources being directed to the creation of this infrastructure which would have meant less concentration on the clean-up at New Road.

"There is only one clear day between the Kent match and the day-night game against Hampshire Hawks on Friday, July 13, which is televised.

"It would have been impossible to sort out Kidderminster and then have time to get ready for the Hampshire game at New Road so it is better to concentrate everything on New Road even if it isn't in perfect condition on Sunday.

"We have a contractual commitment to Sky on the 13th as no other game is scheduled to be played that day which they could cover. I cannot risk not having a game here on that day.

"All these factors and more have to be taken into account. It is undoubtedly a risk and the critical area will be the pitch. Tim Packwood, our head groundsman, and his colleagues are prepared to give it a go but I take all the responsibility if we don't make it."
