LUCTONIANS have completed their preparations for the Midlands One campaign.

They are determined not to repeat last season's disastrous start when the first six league matches were lost.

Lock Chris Jaques will lead the side with utility back Richard Henwood vice-captain.

Director of rugby Simon Green-Price will continue as backs coach and Lucs have pulled off a major coup by engaging the services of Viv Wooley to coach the forwards.

Wooley played more than 200 games on the flank for Gloucester and also represented England B'.

He was Gloucester's first director of rugby and, from 1997 until 1999, coached the team alongside Richard Hill.

Jeremy Wheadon is responsible for fitness and conditioning as well as overseeing the management and rehabilitation of injured players.

David James will manage the first 15 and his predecessor Dai Toms will assume the new role of development manager.

Geoff Morris, former first team player and head of PE at Minister College, is colts' coach. Lucs will field sides at both under 17s and 19s levels.

This season's overseas players are hooker Nick Byron from Goldcoast Breakers in the Queensland League.

Byron will take charge of the successful Sun Valley Project that delivers rugby coaching into primary and secondary schools in Herefordshire.

Cameron Hewitt, who plays centre for Manganui in New Zealand, is also joining.

Training takes place at 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday with two pre-season matches already arranged.
