ENGLAND centre Ben Te’o believes Worcester Warriors are on the right track and has vowed to make the club better next season.
The 30-year-old says he’s “definitely” at Sixways next term and is impressed with the efforts behind the scenes to recruit “quality” players.
Te’o admits his maiden season with Warriors has been a bit disjointed through concussion and call-ups to the England team.
But Te’o is determined to finish off the Aviva Premiership campaign with four wins, starting against Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday (7.45pm).
“I am definitely here for next season,” said Te’o, who joined Warriors from Irish outfit Leinster last summer.
“I am enjoying my time. This season has been a bit up and down from frustrations due to injuries and going away and coming back with England and it’s been a little bit disjointed.
“But I want to finish off the season strongly, have a really good off-season and as many games as I can.”
The future of the powerful centre has been the subject of much discussion among Warriors fans on social media.
But Te’o said: “It was never really bothering me because I didn’t know about it.
“I haven’t even thought about it.
“If there are people out there thinking that (I am leaving) – that’s not the case.
“I am committed to trying to contribute to this team and make it better.
“There are good young kids coming through and we can bring in some really quality people.
“We’ve brought in some quality coaches and we need to keep bringing in quality players and there are people behind the scenes that are handling that. I don’t need to worry about that – that job is being done.”
The centre first raised concerns among Worcester’s fans after questioning the direction of the club in a national report ahead of Warriors’ crunch clash at Bristol on Boxing Day.
But Te'o has been impressed with director of rugby Gary Gold, who arrived at Sixways at the end of January.
“I think the club is on the right track now,” said Te’o, who is yet to play under Gold.
“The way it (national interview) came out at the time was the frustration I was feeling.
“I have left that behind. I have been in and out through international stuff and I have been away for eight weeks and a lot has changed from when I left to when I walked back in.
“The place is a lot different. Guys are bouncing around and there’s so much energy and we’re playing well on the field and getting results.”
Auckland-born Te’o has scored four tries in eight appearances for Warriors and has now recovered from the concussion he suffered in England’s Six Nations defeat in Ireland last month.
He added: “There is going to be some changes (at Warriors next season).
“There are guys who will be moving on and fingers crossed we’ve got some guys coming in.
“But the core group are going to stay and everyone is really excited and wants to build on it for next season.
“I am settled. I feel a lot more comfortable around the place. I feel happy things are going in the right direction.”
