PHIL Jaques hit 59 and Steven Davies 30 to lead Worcestershire to a nail-biting three-wicket Twenty20 Cup win over Somerset at Taunton.

But it was Roger Sillence (19 not out) who guided the Royals home with two balls left.

He hit a four and three off Gareth Andrew's final over as his side made 149-7. Steffan Jones returned 3-27.

Somerset posted a disappointing 148-7 after winning the toss with the main contributors Justin Langer (45) and James Hildreth (40).

Kabir Ali took 3-18 from his four overs.

It did not look a big total on such a high-scoring ground, but Worcestershire made hard work of reaching their target after Peter Trego (2-28) removed Graeme Hick and Vikram Solanki cheaply.

Jaques had to bat with care and hit only five fours in his 50-ball innings.

When he was brilliantly run out by Langer, it was 122-5 in the 17th over and there was still work to do for the Royals.

Davies was yorked by Jones off the next ball, having scored his runs off 22 balls but, although Gareth Batty fell to the first ball of the final over, Sillence held his nerve to play the two match-winning shots with seven needed off four deliveries.

Langer and Cameron White had guided Somerset to 50-1 off the first six overs.

But White was bowled by the impressive Kabir for 14 and it was 79-3 in the 11th over when Langer fell to a boundary catch off Dewald Nel, having hit a six and six fours.

Hildreth scored his runs off 27 balls with a six and four fours.

But John Francis took 14 deliveries to make 12 and the later batsmen were left with too much to do.

The result kept alive Worcestershire's chances of reaching the last eight.
