EVESHAM under 15s secured a fine 27-20 win at Berry Hill in the Forest of Dean on a blustery day.
Only one of the nine tries was converted and the few penalties were all kicked for touch.
Hill chose to play into the wind but Evesham's forwards made inroads leading to a fine try from prop Tom Hedworth closely followed by another score from number eight Jake Smith which was converted by Toby Turner.
The Hill backs looked dangerous and their winger ran around a stretched Evesham defence on the right for an unconverted effort.
Evesham's backs got in on the action and were rewarded with Harry Bates finishing at pace down the left wing before James Costall made a try-saving tackle to keep a 17-5 lead at half-time.
Now playing into the wind Evesham kept the ball close in the forwards for a series of drives then passed back to centre Euey Breach who made the last few metres to the line for a 17-point lead.
But Hill stepped up a gear with three tries in quick succession and the lead was cut to a precarious two points.
Evesham responded with strong ball retention through multiple phases, culminating in a try for Smith.
The visitors successfully defended the lead but were relieved to hear the final whistle Evesham under 16s got knocked out of the North Midlands Cup semi-finals 13-10 by a stronger, bigger Bromsgrove team.
The Vale side took an early lead with a try scored by centre James Hall.
Fly-half Owain Hann kicked a penalty and converted the try.
But Bromsgrove soon replied with two unconverted tries of their own to make it 10-10 at the break.
Bromsgrove played with the strong wind in the second half and Evesham’s defence dug deep to limit them to just a penalty which won the match.
Evesham's player of the match was scrum-half Tom Evans.
