WORCESTERSHIRE could be without overseas batsman Phil Jaques for the final month of the season.

The Australian batsman has, as expected, been named in his country's preliminary 30-man Twenty20 World Cup squad which will be revised to a final 15 in mid-July.

The inaugural tournament is scheduled for September 12 until 24 in South Africa but Cricket Australia has arranged a compulsory pre-season team bonding camp in the last week of August which would further reduce Jaques' county season.

At this stage Jaques is not a first-choice player for Australia given the competition for places in the world champions' starting 11 but he remains on the selectors' radar.

Australia's chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said: "The squad of 30 recognises the outstanding performance of the ICC World Cup-winning squad earlier this year and, at the same time, the stand-out performances of some of our young players in last year's domestic Twenty20 competition.

"We believe we've picked a squad of 30 specifically for the game of Twenty20 cricket with a view to Australia becoming a force in this form of the game. The selectors will meet again in mid-July to discuss this provisional squad.

"At that time we'll select the 15-man team that will contest this competition as well as considering the composition of the Australia A' team to tour to Pakistan in September and the squad for the one-day tour of India in early October."
