GRIMLEY Raceway organisers are hoping to host more national hot rod meetings after a successful debut at the most recent event.

The super-fast hot rods brought a new dimension of racing to the circuit and the lap record was broken on the day too.

More than 100 drivers came from as far away as Plymouth to take part in the seven-race meeting, which boasted one of the highest ever attendances for a non-Bank Holiday weekend.

The meeting was rounded off with a spectacular ramp roll-over by local driver Phillip Waldren.

Organiser Alan Lewis said: "We were expecting to have another wet day but, after some drizzle in the morning, it cleared up and was a great day for racing.

"Lots of drivers turned up and things are really looking up at Grimley - lots of people seem to be finding out about us through our website."

The next Grimley Raceway meeting is on Sunday, July 8, and more details are available at www.grimleyraceway.co.uk
