UNBEATEN Droitwich secured an all-Worcestershire final in the RFU Midlands Senior Vase with an eye-catching 30-20 win at Northampton Casuals.

Spa will meet Evesham, who beat Stewarts and Lloyds 23-22 at home with a last-gasp penalty, in what is effectively the national quarter-finals at a venue to be decided in March.

The winners will progress to the national knockout stages and get closer to a potential date at Twickenham.

Both sides play in Midlands Three West (South) with Droitwich leading the way by 11 points thanks to a 100 per cent record of 12 straight league wins, while Evesham are in fourth place.

Rob Poke scored a brace of tries in Northampton with Aaron Middleton and Sam O’Brien also diving over for the Spa side.

Bobby Scott-Walker added 10 points with his boot against a side who are fourth in Midlands Three East (South).

Meanwhile, Evesham’s James Roberts and Mike Diston scored tries and Sam Hopkins kicked 13 points with the boot, including the last-minute penalty.

Bromyard’s John Parker says he has never witnessed a rugby game that finished 0-0 after 80 minutes.

They needed a dramatic 99th-minute try from Jarrod Kidston in extra-time to beat Market Drayton 7-0 to advance to the North Midlands Vase semi-finals.

The away side would have won the tie if it remained level after extra-time.

“To be fair there were chances for both sides kicking-wise and they had three or four penalties,” said Parker.

“But they missed them and we also missed one.

“It was a wet pitch and more of a forwards game which made it a bit of a slow game.”

Toby Rivers converted to seal the win, while earlier fine covering tackles by the same player and Rhys Cooper ensured the Bromyard line was not crossed.

Third-from-bottom Worcester Wanderers lost 18-13 at home to Stoke who moved up to 10th position in Midlands One West.

Hereford lost 19-7 at Wolverhampton.

Bromsgrove claimed only their second National League Three South West win of the season, beating mid-table Hornets 24-22 at Finstall Park.
