OLD Elizabethans' Birmingham League Division Two table-topping performances continued with a resounding five-wicket win over third-placed Attock at the Memorial Ground.

Skipper Sean Cairney won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first after rain delayed the start by 30 minutes.

Openers Mohammed and MQ Khan had compiled 22 before the former was the victim of a sharp run-out chance initiated by Ollie Griffiths.

J Khan was then bowled by Stuart Lockwood (1-22) without any addition to the total.

S Mahmood joined Mohammed and the pair added 40 before Mahmood was bowled by Matt Sprague, who went on to take 4-38.

Just six runs later, Sprague struck again when he trapped A Khan lbw.

With MQ Khan batting well at the other end, a reasonable score still looked to be in the offing if the middle and lower order batted sensibly around him.

However, a combination of good bowling and some poor shot selection saw Attock routed as they crashed from 68-4 to 88 all out in the space of just nine overs.

The ever-reliable Stuart Phillips (3-23) joined Sprague in running through the Attock order as the visiting batsmen had no answer to the deliveries that were being produced.

Griffiths joined the party, taking a wicket with his first delivery and when Phillips bowled A Zaman, the Birmingham-based side's capitulation was complete.

In response, and with the knowledge that chasing a low target can often prove difficult, Jamie Boyle fell early and Simon Macey found runs difficult to come by before he was bowled by Sabir with the score on 20.

Sam McNally (43 not out) played with controlled aggression and pushed the home side towards their target, losing three more partners in the process.

Although the run-chase was not without its alarms, Old Elizabethans passed the winning target with five wickets remaining in 30 overs.

The victory handed the Worcester side another 20 points and moved them 15 points clear at the top of the Division Two table.

They travel to Smethwick on Saturday looking to extend their winning run still further as the halfway point of the season approaches.

The OEs seconds lost ground in the title chase when rain in Shropshire ruined their game with Wellington.
