MEMBERS of the Sixty and Worcestershire Motor Club competed at an unusual event in the first running of the Soapbox Challenge in aid of St Richard's Hospice.
The event at County Hall was run over a twisty course which used the footpaths and ramps around the area.
Each team had two practice runs and then two timed runs and, if lucky, a place in the top five run-off.
A number of crews had problems with the narrow course and had to make running repairs.
But the team from Sixty and Worcestershire were fortunate and had no such trouble.
They did, however, have a swap-around of driving duties for the timed runs.
Alan Warburton took over as driver, leaving Matt Pearce, Peter Yapp, Kevin Bowcott and Andy Jarvis to do the hard work pushing.
The timed runs saw the team clock one minute 48 seconds for both their timed runs, leaving them in second place on aggregate.
They had set the fastest time through the speed trap at 18mph on one of the practice runs.
But things did not go to plan in the run-offs as they failed to negotiate the first bend and collided with a post which deranged the front wheels.
They recovered to finish third overall and first in class, as well as raising £485 to the grand total for the hospice.
