DESPITE heavy rainfall, Worcester's Division One match at Nomads went ahead with the hosts emerging as winners by 12 runs.

On a damp overcast day, Nomads' groundstaff put in a great effort just to enable the game to be played.

Worcester won the toss and asked Nomads to bat. Weston, bowling with pace and bounce, bowled Harris in his third over.

A good partnership between Larkins and Jones steadied the Nomads inn-ings but, with the score on 54, Larkin was run out for 26.

Sixteen-year-old Smith joined Jones to put on a partnership of 50 and, with the score on 108-3, the game was finely balanced.

Nomads captain Rees upped the tempo but, with wickets falling regularly, Nomads found themselves 161-7 off 40 overs.

However Davies, with a solid 31 not out, and Schiffmann with 16 at the end got Nomads to a total score of 219 all out. Foster and Keyte were Worces-ter's best bowlers, picking up three wickets apiece.

In reply, Worcester got off to a solid start, putting on 31 for the first wicket. After losing three quick wickets, Worcester found themselves 51-4 off 20 overs.

Matt Foster and Clive Chadhani put on a 100 partnership with Foster 50 and Chadhani 45, which swung the balance Worcester's way.

Derek Austin then removed both batsmen and Weston and Evans started to push for victory.

But Shiffmann returned to put No-mads back in control, taking 6-65, as Worcester were bowled out for 207.

n In Division Three, Old Vigornians' firsts managed to pick up some important league points at Colwall in between some heavy showers.

The game was eventually abandoned as a draw but not until after the Colwall innings had been completed.

The Herefordshire side batted first and the Old Vigornians quickly red-uced them to 40-5.

Not for the first time this season, the OVs contrived to let a team off the hook and, after Colwall skipper Pete Butler was dropped in the gully early on, he went on to score 84.

Colwall declared on 186-9 from 46 overs after the game was reduced to a 75-over affair.

But it was a commendable performance after several members of the team had been struck by a bout of food poisoning during the week.

Seb Choudhury continued in his recent rich vein of form by taking four wickets for 42 from 15 overs, skipper Arti Fiaz took 3-56 from 18.

Will Ballard bowled a wayward but fast spell that resulted in him picking up 2-45 in eight overs.

Tom Cullen and Tom Weston each held two catches but a torrential downpour ended the match.
