COUNTY talisman Graeme Hick has scooped the first Rock Lobster player of the month award of the season.

From the beginning of the season until the end of May, veteran batsman Hick picked up an impressive 15 points to land the accolade.

The former England man hit crucial centuries against Lancashire (110) and Sussex (108) in LV County Championship Division One. As well as this, he contributed an important unbeaten 65 against Derbyshire in the Friends Provident Trophy to finish a clear winner of the monthly prize.

He was presented with a Paul Smith watch by Jamie and Linda Jones from Worcester-based jewellers, Rock Lobster.

Hick totalled 32 points, which was 15 clear of his nearest challenger, Vikram Solanki, while Kabir Ali was third.

The points for the player of the month are awarded by members of the press who cover the County's first-class and one-day matches.

The leading player in Championship matches receives 10 points, with six for second and four points for third.

In all other matches the winner receives five points, second gets three and third just one point. The monthly winner is the player with the highest total.
