STEVE Wood is the new men's champion at Evesham Golf Club.

The five-handicapper top-ped the standings after 36 holes played in glorious sunshine when he finished three strokes ahead of the field.

Wood's opening round of 72 set the standard and he was able to card a second round 79 and still comfortably claim the prestigious annual prize.

Simon Casey was the runner-up after a pair of 77s left him one shot clear of reigning champion Stuart Ridley and Les Farrell.

Farrell finished second in the Frank Swann Trophy for best nett score behind his ten-year-old son Oliver, who continued his red-hot form when recording a tremendous 36-hole aggregate of 134.
