PAUL Judge hit 140 and captain Dave Mendham took 5-28 as Old Vigornians Second XI crushed Avoncroft by 110 runs.

The victory, OVs' second of the season, moved them up to fifth in Crusader Worcester-shire League Division Three after eight games.

It also wins our team of the week award, a box of Fearnley cricket balls worth £90.

Judge's second century of the season was his best score, with seven sixes and 17 fours.

Adam Howard also made 25 in an opening stand of 83 with Judge, while James Gommersall hit nine in a third-wicket partnership of 63 before Judge went with the score on 202.

James Bader and Nic Sproson scored 22 and 23, but the OVs collapsed from 263-6 to 273 all out in the last over.

Avoncroft's Ian Carpenter did the majority of the damage, taking a respectable 8-60 from 12 overs.

Mendham then took 5-28, including the first four wickets, as the visitors were dismissed for 163. Bader and George Blakeway took two wickets apiece.

Mendham said: "Paul Judge scored 140 so I would have to say the foundation was laid by him because that enabled us to get a fairly good total and I was lucky enough to get 5-28.

"I took out their top five batsmen and to be fair everyone chipped in. It was a fairly good team performance.

"It was a thumping, particularly as Avoncroft were fairly high in the league, it was good to get one over them."

He added: "The second team is getting better and better. A good test will be this weekend when we play Colwall (top of the league). We seem to be improving and long may it continue. A good example would be Paul Judge. He got 112 last week and 140 this week.

"If we carry on in the same vein I would be looking to win the league or finish second or third."
