PERDISWELL Park’s Barrie Hope put on a successful captain’s day competition.

Around £600 at least was raised for the Stroke Association from the day’s events and a playing turn-out of 65 members.

The format for the main event was individual stableford and Simon Hine took first place, retaining the title and trophy with 43 points.

Six pars and just one birdie on the ninth, combined with effective use of his 23-handicap, took Hine to the top of the leaderboard and dropped his handicap by two shots.

Geoff Edge (24 handicap) found his form again and returned 42 to take second place and club champion Tommy Hayes (3) was third with 41.

George Postans (20) came home in fourth place with 40.

Scott Thomas won a chipping competition run by professional Craig Brown, while nearest the pin awards went to Steve Baylis, Luke Gibbs and John Griffiths (in two) on the fifth, 16th and 11th holes respectively.

Thirty-four Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park players contested the first round of the Two Day Salver in blazing sunshine.

Kurt Brauchli (14) returned 65 nett to grab the win and the lead going into the next round on count-back.

Jan Schutte (18) took second place, also with 65, but just failed to match Brauchli’s last six hole score.

John Tennant (28) was third on count-back with 66 ahead of Mike Boylan (18).

Twenty-five players tackled a midweek stableford in ideal conditions and Mark Hine (28) took full advantage to accumulate a mighty 43 points for victory.

Peter Brown (19) amassed 41 to narrowly snatch second place from Martin Hucker (15), who took third place on count-back with 40 from the fourth-placed Jason Allen and Les Davies in fifth.

A meagre turn-out left the monthly medal stableford up for grabs and Jane Rowland (28) made the most of the opportunity to win with 30 points.

Phil Rowland (19) also carded 30 but could only manage 13 on the back nine compared with the winner’s 18.
