A MOTHER and daughter from Worcester are aiming to take the world by storm when they compete on one of the biggest stages in kickboxing.

Emma Lambert and her 12-year-old daughter Carlie are set to represent Great Britain at the World Fightsport and Martial Arts Championships in October after producing an “unbelievable” result at the Midlands Open in West Bromwich.

Despite arriving at the qualifying competition with low expectations, the duo, who compete for Worcester club White Lotus Martial Arts, both finished third in their categories.

Emma, who lives in Rainbow Hill and works full-time as a purchasing manager in Worcester, said they have been on “cloud nine” since their success in June.

“It was unbelievable and a real shock,” said the 32-year-old.

“We were talking in the car on the way down saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be good if we both got through (to the world championships)’.

“But we didn’t actually think we were going to.

“We didn’t expect to get anywhere as we had never entered that competition before and the style of fighting was new to us.

“So to both finish third was fantastic and we have been on cloud nine ever since.”

Emma said she started kickboxing six years ago, while her daughter, who is a pupil at Tudor Grange Academy, joined White Lotus Martial Arts in 2014.

They both train at Lyppard Community Centre and Emma admitted Carlie enjoyed going into battle with her mother.

“We have to spar in class, so there is always a bit of competition as my daughter likes to get one back on mum,” she said.

“It is the only time she can have a fight with mum without getting told off.

“Obviously, with my age I am almost at the end in the sport but Carlie is only 12 so she can go really far and she is improving week on week.”

With less than three months to go before the championships are held in Manchester, Emma said they were now stepping up their training regime.

“We have gone from training one day a week to two days a week,” she said.

“But now we need to start training three to four days a week and then we will be stepping up to five days a week as we get closer.

“Deep down, we would both like to get some sort of title from it. We are quite competitive so we would both like to win.

“But it is completely new to us, so all we can do is fight to the best of our ability and hope for the best.”
