NORTH Midlands clubs will consider a proposal to change the name of the RFU Constituent Body to West Midlands at a meeting later this month.

The proposal to change from North Midlands to West Midlands has been made by Peter Grace, the CB's representative on the RFU Council, and seconded by Five Ways OE RFC.

Clubs will vote on the proposed name change at the North Midlands annual meeting at Old Griffinians RFC in Birmingham on Wednesday, June 27.

North Midlands was formed in 1920 and has comprised three domestic unions - Worcestershire & Hereford-shire, Greater Birmingham and Shropshire - since Staffordshire broke away to become an independent CB in the late 1960s.

The name change has been proposed to give the Constituent Body a closer identity with the geographical area it now covers.

The motion will require a clear majority at the meeting and any name change is subject to approval by the RFU.
