WORCESTER Warriors are on course for record season ticket sales after announcing 4,000 have already been snapped up.

That figure represents a 10 per cent increase on the same time last year. A total of 5,500 were eventually sold.

Mike Ruddock's arrival at the club as director of rugby, along with the signing of high-profile players like Sam Tuitupou and Greg Rawlin-son, are thought to be the main factors behind the increased demand.

"I'm delighted with the news that we have sold so many season tickets so early," said Ruddock. "It's very encouraging for the coaches and the players to see such a real statement of intent from our wonderful supporters.

"One of the reasons I came to Worcester Warriors was because of the fantastic support for the team through thick and thin. The fans really impressed me and have continued to do so ever since I walked through the doors at Sixways.

"I'm determined, with my coaching team of Clive Griffiths and Billy McGinty, to try and develop a quality product that rewards the loyalty of our tremendous fanbase."

Warriors general manager Charlie Little said: "What we are building here at Sixways is unique across European rugby and our fans have a huge role to play in the future of the club.

"We have shown our ambition by bringing in a fantastic director of rugby in Mike Ruddock and having already signed players of real quality as part of this summer's recruitment process."

Ruddock held his first coaching session at Sixways on Monday as the players returned for pre-season training. Among those who were unable to take part were scrum-half Matt Powell, who is nursing an ankle injury.

Tim Collier has returned to the club to continue his rehabilitation after knee reconstruction. Initial reports suggested the giant lock would not be available until the new year but Ruddock is cautiously optimistic of an early return.

"He is up and about and he is dying to be involved which is a good sign," said Ruddock.

"Tim attended the team meeting and is confident he will beat the prediction."
