WEST Mercia Badminton Club are starting free coaching sessions for female players keen to take up the sport or return to competitive action.

The club are under-represented by female players and want to boost numbers.

The free sessions will take place at West Mercia Police headquarters, Worcester, on Fridays from August 12 to September 2.

West Mercia have enjoyed another very successful season in the Worcestershire League.

They won the men’s Premier Division for the fourth year running, led by team captain Simon Rhoden.

They also triumphed in the men’s First Division and the veterans’ firsts and seconds sections.

“We are looking for new members,” said chairman Martin Francis. “We have county players and qualified coaches to provide support. We also have Clubmark status and always play with feather shuttles.”

The club’s juniors, aged eight to 18 years, are based at Perdiswell Sports Centre and coaching will start again on Thursdays during the autumn school term.
