WORCESTERSHIRE Cricket are hosting two Rapids summer holiday super camps at New Road.

The first will be from July 25 until 29 and the second begins two weeks later from August 8 until 12.

The camps will be headlined by the involvement of Worcestershire Rapids players Joe Leach, Ben Cox, Tom-Kohler Cadmore, Ed Barnard, George Rhodes and Josh Tongue.

Children will get to spend time with their heroes, most of whom have come through the successful County academy, when they are around for training.

Open to children aged eight to 15, the camps will run with more emphasis on T20 cricket and give visitors the lasting memory of playing on the New Road turf.

Sam Wyles, west and central cricket development coach for Worcestershire Cricket, said: “We have put a strong effort into our camps this year, which includes a complete revamp of the structure in the way it’s run.

“We used to do individual days but, from this year, attendees get the opportunity to participate in a five-day camp.

“The children can come along and get a lot more for their money. We are really lucky that we get to use the amazing facilities at New Road.

“It would be a memorable experience for the attendees to come and train in the outfield in a big stadium, where they have seen their idols play.”

Tracksuits or whites can be worn to the camp and, while all equipment will be provided, children can bring their own.

An early drop-off and late pick-up service is also available if requested but may incur additional costs.

The camps will cover all the major skills, including fun games, and involve brand new T20 skills, such as scoops and slower balls.

Wyles added: “Everything is rebranded as Rapids. They can try to learn some of the shots they see on television, like the reverse sweeps, the scoops, slower balls and variations, and new T20 fielding skills.

“Experience-wise and with the chance to play T20 cricket at New Road, for them it’s a huge opportunity.

“I remember going to a camp in a big stadium when I was young and I loved it. Hopefully, we can recreate that for them.”

They will run from 9am until 3pm and cost £20 a day and £80 for the week.
