A WORCESTER school team finished the season unbeaten as they were crowned national under 16s rounders champions in a tournament at the University of Leicester.
Royal Grammar School Worcester’s performance was strong throughout the day, winning four group games before making it through the quarter and semi-finals.
In the English schools’ final, they beat a strong team from Manchester High School.
Leanne Bennett, physical education teacher and rounders coach at RGS, said: “In the final, the girls were determined and composed.
“They made the most of every opportunity and successfully got all the Manchester players out by ball 19, with them scoring five rounders.
“It took just 16 balls for the RGS team to exceed the score and claim victory.”
The girls were awarded medals and a golden bat in a ceremony at the end of the day following their undefeated show.
Cia Swingler, head of girls’ games at RGS, said: “It has been an excellent season for the under 16 rounders team and I would like to congratulate all of the girls on their success, which is a culmination of a huge amount dedication and hard work.”
