A FORMER referee who played a key role in running a successful football competition in Worcester has died.

Eric Bullock died peacefully at Shaw Redhill Care Home on July 2 aged 91.

After more than 20 years as a referee, Bullock ran the Worcester Infirmary Cup, which raised thousands of pounds for various charities.

Honorary referees appointments secretary Jeff Widdett knew Bullock, who had lived in Prestwich Avenue, for 30 years and said he was keen to get youngsters into football.

“He was a little jovial character who was very dedicated,” Widdett said.

“Eric ran a couple of sides and was always keen to get youngsters to play football.

“He tried to support them and give them help whenever he could as he invited under 18 sides to play in the minor cup.

“He always enjoyed his football and felt that even when he finished refereeing he wanted to be involved.”

Bullock’s funeral service will take place at Worcester Crematorium on Thursday at 11.30am.
