MACMILLAN Cancer Support are combining with Ombersley for a Worcestershire 20-mile Elite Golf Challenge.

The Bishops Wood Road club are closing their doors for the challenge on Saturday, July 30, which will help people affected by cancer and their families.

Twenty teams from the county will participate in a four-ball contest with the best two stableford scores to count.

There are prizes for the best teams and every player must raise at least £200 to help achieve the fundraising target of £20,000.

The challenge will start at first light and they will keep going until the 20 miles are completed or 72 holes are played.

County Macmillan fundraising manager Kelly Whitehouse said: “Each year, 3,285 people in the county hear the devastating news that they have cancer and, sadly, cancer still claims the lives of 1,550 people across the county.

“I would like to encourage people to support those affected by a cancer diagnosis, their families and their carers. Together we can make a difference to people’s lives.”

Ombersley are keen to get seniors involved and they can play 36 holes rather than 72 if they wish.
