MATT Mason will seek a second opinion on the troublesome shoulder injury that has prevented him from playing for Worcestershire this season.

The Aussie-born seamer, who had an arthroscopy on his shoulder to clear up the joint during the closed season, expected to be fit soon after the start of the current campaign, but he has not recovered as hoped for.

Now, with no sign of a playing return on the horizon, the club have opted to seek advice from the surgeon who has helped fellow shoulder-injury victims Shane Warne and Brett Lee in recent times.

Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton said: "Matt's shoulder is not repairing as quickly as it should be and he is taking a second opinion from the surgeon who looked after Brett Lee and Shane Warne in the past.

"Until we get that opinion, we know no more.

"He tried to bowl in the nets on Saturday morning and the injury is not getting any better.

"With regard to the time span he will be out for, who knows? But it has become more serious than we originally thought."
