VETERAN cricket team Fossils have picked up two wins from their last two outings.
They sealed an emphatic 10-wicket win in a friendly at Belbroughton and then prevailed by two wickets against the Peter Tudge Invitation XI.
Fossils put Belbroughton into bat on a damp pitch and reduced them to 9-3 and then 26-5 after 16 overs.
Freddie Beaumont hit an impressive 68 for Belbroughton before he was out in the last over as the hosts closed on 120-6 from 40 overs.
Cliff Rawlings, with 2-26, was the pick of the Fossils bowling attack and he was backed up by Pete Tudge (1-25), Paul Thompson (1-20) and Dormy Cook (1-4).
The Fossils openers were never in trouble and John Swift (28) put on 96 with Bill Wood (58 not out).
Swift retired to let Colin Jones (26 not out) join Wood and they steered the Fossils home to their first victory of the season.
The annual Peter Tudge Trophy match was an exciting game with Fossils edging home with an over to spare.
The Tudge team got away to a solid but slow start with the bat as Keith Middleton (35 retired) and Bill Wood (33) put on 85 from 21 overs.
Graham Thorne hit 35 before retiring and then Fossils bowlers and fielders started to slow down the scoring rate.
Martin Woodward (1-11 from six overs) was the pick of the Fossils bowlers, but John Banner took 2-24 from his six overs, as the Tudge team finished on 142 after 35 overs.
The Fossils got off to poor start, losing Nigel Price for a duck, clean bowled by Phillipa Bray (3-17).
John Lawrence (1) soon followed to become Bray’s second scalp of the day.
Jeff Barnes (29) and Simon Hudson (22) then had put on a fine stand of 56 in 10 overs.
A dip in the scoring rate followed before Derek Ebbage retired on 35.
Woodward hit an excellent unbeaten 28 not out to guide the Fossils to the Tudge Trophy.
