OLD Vigornians were thrashed by Romsley and Hunnington in Crusader Worcestershire League Division Three after fielding only 10 men and few regulars.

Only Phil O'Neill, with a patient 24, showed any staying power as OVs were dismissed for just 64 and Romsley romped to a six-wicket win.

The seconds managed a much better display on an unusually green pitch at New Road.

Romsley put OVs in to bat, and, although it was a struggle for most against accurate bowling, Paul Judge played a magnificent innings of 112.

Harry Iddon played an invaluable innings of 22 as OVs posted 180-9 off 50 overs.

A helicopter taking Julian Lloyd-Webber from a concert to mark the 150th anniversary of Edward Elgar's birth landed on the adjacent field and held up play for 10 minutes.

Niels Emmerson, 12, made a tremendous impact on his debut, taking a stunning catch and bowling seven overs of accurate leg-spin which conceded just 20 runs.

Emmerson's catch turned the match because Romsley and Hunnington were 62-1 in the 16th over.

Dave Mendham took 4-44, Richard Protherough 2-16 and Phil Mackie 3-44 as OVs restricted the visitors to 163-9 and secured the winning draw.

OVs lost by 57 runs in a 40-over friendly at New Road against Henley-in-Arden.

Henley posted a formidable 287-5 in 40 overs with 12-year-old Alex Spring claiming 2-24.

OVs finished on 230-6 as Dan Wheeler showed an array of attacking strokes in his 67 not out from 58 balls.

Steve Poole became the first debutant to score a century for the club in nearly a decade, managing 111.
